Brooklyn Bridge

Holdys wrote a fantastic, difficult to play, song called Brooklyn Bridge. In order to perform it at the main stage of the 2006 Woodstock Festival, he chose, out of the many talented participants of the Academy of the Fine Arts, a girl, a boy, a 12-person choir and 16 guitarists. They rehearsed virtually non-stop for 3 days. In order for them to be able to rehearse we gave them a T. Burton – Electro-Harmonix – Garrsion – Taylor tent as well as T.Burton guitars, which were then autographed by the guitarists, by Holdys and by Owsiak and covered with the Woodstock dust, which was left on them. This Winter, they will take part in the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity auction.

The memories of one of the 16 Woodstock guitarists.

To start off, let me introduce myself.
Name: Michal
Surname: Ilenda
Birth date: 21.08.1989
City: Ciechocinek

This was my third Woodstock and even before taking the trip I had found out about the Academy of Fine Arts and Z.Holdys’ workshops… In one of his interviews I read that Mr Holdys was creating a band and even though he couldn’t take on every guitarist that applied, he would talk to each and every one and tell him/her what to do next…
I decided to take a shot. During the first meeting in the Great Yurt I took a guitar and sat down with the other guitarists. After a moment, two girl-guitarists joined us and stayed with us until the very end…

The first rehearsal went by quite calmly, we found out which song we would have to play and every person could decide for themselves if they were up for it.
The following rehearsals were more demanding, guitarists began to drop out and everyone was afraid whether they would get through to the next rehearsal… The guitarists changed but the song remained the same.
On Saturday, immediately after the rehearsal on the Academy of Fine Arts hill, we were told that we were going to rehearse on the Great Stage – this is when stress set in for the first time… when we reached the top it turned out that there were a couple of thousand people in front of the stage… Yet, when we started to play, that was enough to completely forget that they existed. That evening concert was something incredible, thousands of people and a 30 person band - at that time everything just clicked and I’m sure that each one of us will remember it for a very long time…
